Christmas Past

Dear DDD,

Do you remember my Christmas Past dated December 1977?

Dear Diary,

I came home from school today and decided to put up our Christmas tree. I pulled out the huge box from our basement and carried every piece up to our living room. I followed the directions and inserted every branch into the color-coded hole. My mom and dad got home from work and couldn’t believe that I put together the tree – and that it looked like I did it right! I think Mom was annoyed because she couldn’t deal with the mess. Dad helped me put up the lights after dinner and when my brothers saw how much fun Dad and I where having, they wanted to help. So many lights didn’t work so we couldn’t finish tonight. Dad had to touch and shake every light until he got them to work. Tomorrow I will put all of the ornaments on the tree.

Dear Diary,

I waited for everyone to get home to start the tree. I put in an 8 track of Christmas songs to make it fun. My brothers are so annoying, they are throwing things and everyone started yelling and fighting. My mom says she hates Christmas and my dad told her to go to bed. I told them that I hate them all and they ruin everything. I’m really tired Diary, good night.

Dear Diary,

I didn’t wait for anyone to help me finish the tree. Everyone kept saying at half time we would do it. Dad told me to always put the top ornament on first. Aww, it’s so cute! He is a snowman holding an umbrella with big bright lights on him. I was really carefully unwrapping all of the ornaments. I didn’t want to hear my mom yelling. Everyone came up at half time and I was finished. They couldn’t believe I did it all by myself. My brothers are so mean. They said it looked ugly because I did it. They are just jealous because they are so lazy and wouldn’t put the tree up themselves. Got to go, Diary. The Wonderful World of Disney is on.

Dear Diary,

My daddy brought home a real tree for our basement. I was sooo sooo excited. It is so pretty and smells really nice. He told me the tree is only for me. I always wanted a real tree. Daddy showed me how to put tinsel on the tree. Daddy used to have tinsel on his tree when he was little and he gave me the most beautiful ornaments that I ever saw. He went to my Grandma’s and got them so he could give them to me. This is the best Christmas ever. Got to go Diary – I can’t miss the Fonz. He is soooo cute!
